Hi Guys,

I am following Sarith Subramaniam tutorials to produce images using the two
phase method( 2PM_DayCoeff script)

The script(coming with the tutorial) works on ubuntu but am struggling to
get it work on Windows.

I have changed it accordingly as suggested for Windows:

vwrays -vf views/south.vf -x 400 -y 400 -pj 0.7 -c 9 -ff > south.rays

vwrays -vf views/south.vf -x 400 -y 400 -d > dimentions.txt

rfluxmtx -ffc -v -n 8 -x 400 -y 222 -ld- -c 9 -ab 4 -ad 10000 -lw 0.0001
-o matrices/dc/hdr/south%03d.hdr - skyDomes/skyglow.rad -i
octrees/roomDC.oct < south.rays

dctimestep -o results/dc/hdr/south%04d.hdr matrices/dc/hdr/south%03d.hdr
skyVectors/NYC.smx

The above scripts ran on ubuntu creates a range of matrices south-000 to
south-145 whereas in Windows south-145 is missing.
Also the size of south-000.hdr is twice as the other files in Windows. attached
is the south-000.hdr file
(due to size limit only the header plus portion of the file is attached).

dctimestep results on: "fatal - file 'matrices/dc/hdr/south000.hdr' not a
picture"

Hi Ali,

Are you running a version of Radiance that is more than a year old? You
can check your version by doing a "rcontrib -version" (without quotes)
on command prompt. The issue with the missing images was fixed by Greg
more than a year ago.

I just tried the commands on the latest version
<https://github.com/NREL/Radiance/releases/tag/5.2.0> and can confirm
that they are working as intended. I haven't tried the perl-based
commands for falsecolor and genskyvec and am not sure if those will work
as well.

Yes, you need version 5.1 or later. In fact, Sarith discovered this issue when he created his tutorial, so we can thank him for that as well!

Cheers,

Just another question regarding oconv program

I realised that changing date/time in "gensky 5 9 10:59GMT +s -a 51.15 -o
0.18" command doesn't require recreating
the oct file as long as the sky type is not changed. Is this correct? Is it
possible to change the sky type(gensky -ang 45 0 -c) without recreating
octree?

Changes to materials or distant light source directions do not affect the octree. As long as you avoid the oconv -f option, you can re-use the octree and get correct results. However, if you change the number or type of primitives in the scene file, as switching between sunny and overcast skies will do, then the octree will need to be rebuilt. This is because Radiance uses a simple counter index for referencing primitives in its input.
